5 Reasons Showing Up Matters
It Shows You Care:
Maybe the most important reason for showing up- showing up shows that you care.
If you’re not there, it’s hard to show that you care. And showing up doesn’t mean in person. It implies in spirit, mind, and emotionally.
Showing up shows you care by letting others know you see their needs, wants, and desires. You help them achieve it by being there for them.
Let’s show our teams we care by showing up.
You Build Trust:
Another thing showing up does is build trust. When you consistently show up, people see you are reliable. They see you’ll be there. They see they can trust you.
Why does showing up build trust? Because, they see you day in and day out. They see the work getting done. Not just by them but by you.
Trust is build when you show up. Make sure you’re showing up when needed.
Your Presence Shows What Matters:
How can you tell what matters in an organization? People put a focus on what matters.
Your presence shows what matters and value. The more you show up, are present, and care, the more you show what matters.
Where is your presence? Is it on the next vacation you’re taking or is it focused on your team members, organizational success, or tasks at hand.
Your presence points toward what matters. Be present and how your team what needs to be valued.
You Demonstrate Commitment:
It takes effort and determination to show up. Especially consistently. When you show up, you show commitment.
Isn’t that what you want from your team? We all want team members who are committed to the cause. Yet, we can be the least committed. And we show it by our disengagement.
You can shift that by being present. By being there, you show that you are just as committed (you should be more committed) as your team members who are forced to be there. If you’re unwilling to be present, you’ll have your team members wondering why they should be present.
If you’re committed to your organization, be present. Be a part of what’s happening. Your team will see you and understand that you’re committed.
You Show Respect (Especially When You Show Up On Time):
I know I said the first reason in this list may be the most important. I believe that but this one may be the second most important reason to show up as a leader. When you show up, you show respect to your team.
Your presence matters. When you show up, you show that you respect the rest of your team enough to be present and aware of what’s happening. It gives your team a sense that you’re accountable to them and they you. Your presence also empowers them by giving them the understanding you will be there when needed.
Showing Up Matters
Showing up matters as a leader. The more you show up, the more you build trust, show respect, demonstrate your commitment, show care, and point toward what matters. Great leaders know this, and that’s why they show up.
